John Gardiner

Drums, Percussion, Vocals

I have been playing drums and other assorted objects that can be hit, kicked or scratched on since I was about 5. My dad was a very great jazz drummer who had a his bit of fame playing drums for the Billy Marx Trio. Son of Harpo Marx. So you can see where I get my hair.

I have played in all the obvious garage bands as a kid and teenager but when I moved to Nevada City in 1975 I met some great players that I joined up with and started playing, or attempting to play, songs by such groups as Genesis, Yes, King Crimson, etc. Prog Rock drumming!

In 1982 I joined a band that was anything but prog-rock. The Train a.k.a Ricky & the Redstreaks. Very different sort of thing but something I stayed with for 18 years. The Redstreaks were/are a comedy show band that play a huge variety of music and is known around the country for their crazy antics and off beat humor.

Currently I have been playing drums with a group called Soul Light Connection at a Unity church in Sacramento called Spiritual Life Center. Great musicians and a huge variety of styles to pull from.

Always a backup singer and taking the occasional lead vocal, I decided I wanted to do this front-guy thing. So I am the lead vocalist from behind the drums.

Pulling together the talents of Stephen Sullivan,
Phil Stone and of course Lee Kohler, to form The Uncovered.

The band has been together for 7 years now and it gets better every day.

I love playing with these guys as well as just hanging together and talking music, life, and learning more about baseball than I had ever thought possible.
